Glycine

Glycine (abbreviated Gly), also known as amino-acetic acid, is a non-essential amino acid, its chemical formula is C2H5NO2.Glycine is a component amino acid of endogenous antioxidant reduced glutathione, which is sometimes referred to as semi-essential amino acid when the body is under severe stress.



Solid glycine is white to grayish white crystalline powder, odorless, non-toxic.Soluble in water, almost insoluble in ethanol or ether.Used in the pharmaceutical industry, biochemical test and organic synthesis, the amino acid series is the most simple in structure, the body is not necessary for an amino acid, both acidic and basic functional groups in the molecule, can be ionized in the water, has a strong hydrophilic, but belong to nonpolar amino acid, soluble in polar solvent, and difficult to soluble in nonpolar solvents, and has high boiling point and melting point,Glycine can show different molecular morphology by adjusting the acidity and alkalinity of aqueous solution.

Use

1. Food     

Used as biochemical reagents, used in medicine, feed and food additives, nitrogen fertilizer industry used as non-toxic decarbonization agent;
Nutritional supplements.Mainly used for seasoning and other aspects;
It has certain inhibitory effect on the reproduction of Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli.Therefore, it can be used as a preservative for surimi products and peanut butter, adding 1% ~ 2%;
Antioxidant effect (using its metal chelation) added to butter, cheese, margarine can prolong the shelf life of 3 ~ 4 times;
To stabilize lard in baked foods, glucose 2.5% and glycine 0.5% can be added;
Add 0.1% ~ 0.5% to the wheat flour for instant cooking noodles, which can play a role in seasoning at the same time;
It can buffer the taste sensation of salt and vinegar, and the added amount is 0.3%-0.7% for salt and 0.05%-0.5% for acid

2. Medicine    

For use in medical microbiological and biochemical studies of amino acid metabolism;
It is used as the synthetic raw material of chlortetracycline buffer, anti-Parkinson's disease drug L-dopa, vitamin B6, threonine and other amino acids.
Treatment of myasthenia gravis and progressive muscular atrophy;
Treatment of excessive gastric ester disease, chronic enteritis (often in the combination of antacid);
Combined with aspirin, can reduce its irritation to the stomach;
Treatment of hyperprolinemia in children;


3. Agricultural

It is mainly used as additive and attractant to increase amino acid in feed for poultry, livestock and poultry, especially pets.Used as hydrolyzed protein additive, as hydrolyzed protein synergist;
Glycine ethyl ester hydrochloride, the intermediate of pyrethroid insecticide, can also be used to synthesize the fungicide isomycorea and herbicide solid glyphosate.


4. Industrial

Electroplating solution additive;
Used in pharmaceutical industry, biochemical experiments and organic synthesis;
Used as cephalosporin raw materials, methionomycin intermediate, synthesis of imidazolacetic acid intermediate and so on;
Used as a cosmetic ingredient.

5. Reagent

Used for peptide synthesis, as amino acid protective monomer;
For the preparation of tissue culture medium, copper, gold and silver test;
Glycine is a amphoteric ion with amino and carboxyl groups, so it has strong buffering properties and is often used as a preparation buffer.
