Rumours of "Melamine products"
Is melamine tableware toxic?
Melamine tableware is non-toxic. Made of melamine resin powder under pressure and heating, mainly used for making children's tableware, but also for making ordinary tableware, the molecular monomer of the tableware is formaldehyde and melamine, and the basic material used for making tableware is A5 material, i.e., 100 per cent of the material of melamine resin, without any additives and plastic properties, which is characterised by non-toxicity and odourlessness, high temperature resistance and corrosion.
Melamine in the rumour mill.
When it comes to melamine tableware, we may not have a good impression of it. In addition to the misleading information provided by some of the Vloggers, the incident of Sanlu milk powder being found to have excessive melamine a few years ago has also made us fearful of talking about melamine. The chemical name of melamine is melamine.
Here, you are likely to be puzzled, that is not toxic?
Melamine tableware, which is also known as porcelain tableware, is essentially a plastic product. Melamine tableware is beautiful, unbreakable and has a long service life. Therefore, it is favoured by some fast food restaurants and families. However, the emergence of the term melamine makes consumers a little sensitive.
Melamine belongs to thermosetting plastics, and only the free form of melamine is toxic. Qualified melamine tableware is almost free of melamine.
Acute toxicity study shows that the oral, melamine LD50 of rats is 3160mg/kg, the toxicity is between vinegar and salt, which is a low toxicity substance. Moreover, the acute toxicity of melamine is small, and 90% of melamine will be excreted in its original form, through urine. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has set the daily intake limit of melamine at 0.2mg/kg bw. It is safe for a child weighing 20kg to consume less than 4mg per day. Moreover, experiments have proved that the melamine leaching from diamine tableware is very, very low, which proves that it is safe.
