Thiourea | Industrial & High Purity Grade | CAS 62-56-6
Thiourea (Thiocarbamide) – Industrial & High Purity Grade | CAS: 62-56-6
Thiourea (chemical formula CH₄N₂S, CAS No. 62-56-6, EINECS: 200-543-5), also known as thiocarbamide, is a high-value sulfur-containing organic compound and versatile chemical intermediate. Structurally derived from urea with oxygen replaced by sulfur, it possesses unique chemical reactivity that distinguishes it from conventional urea products. Our factory produces two mainstream specifications: industrial grade and high-purity refined thiourea. Adopting improved synthetic reaction and multi-stage recrystallization purification technology, our products feature uniform crystal shape, low impurity content, stable activity and excellent solubility, with a purity range of 99.0% to 99.8%. With stable batch quality and competitive factory pricing, our thiourea is widely exported to Southeast Asia, Middle East, Europe, Africa and Latin America, serving core industries including mineral metallurgy, electroplating processing, rubber manufacturing, pharmaceutical synthesis, pesticide production and fine chemical research.

1. Physical & Chemical Properties
High-quality thiourea appears as colorless transparent rhombic crystal or white glossy crystalline powder, with slight bitter taste and no peculiar odor. It is highly soluble in water and polar organic solvents such as ethanol, slightly soluble in glycerol, and insoluble in non-polar solvents like benzene and ether. The aqueous solution is neutral or weakly alkaline with stable chemical properties at room temperature. It features excellent complexing ability, strong reducibility and active sulfhydryl reaction activity, enabling it to form stable complex salts with precious metal ions such as gold, silver, copper and mercury. Under heating or alkaline conditions, thiourea can undergo isomerization and decomposition reactions. Our refined products strictly control moisture, ash content and organic impurities, effectively avoiding reaction instability and product failure caused by excessive impurities in industrial applications.

3. Core Industrial Application Scenarios
3.1 Mining & Precious Metal Metallurgy (Top Searched Application)
Thiourea is a high-efficiency non-toxic precious metal leaching agent, widely used for gold and silver ore leaching and recovery. Compared with traditional cyanide leaching agents, thiourea features low pollution, fast leaching speed and high metal recovery rate, which is suitable for oxidized ore, low-grade ore and complex symbiotic ore treatment. It can efficiently complex with free gold and silver ions in ore pulp to form soluble complex compounds, greatly improving mineral utilization rate, and has become the mainstream environmentally friendly reagent for modern mineral metallurgy enterprises.
3.2 Electroplating & Surface Treatment Industry
Served as an excellent metal complexing agent, brightening agent and surface passivation agent in electroplating industry. It is commonly used for gold plating, silver plating, copper plating and nickel plating processes, which can stabilize the plating solution system, refine metal crystal grains, improve coating uniformity, brightness and adhesion, and effectively eliminate plating defects such as pinholes and fogging. In metal pickling and rust removal operations, it acts as a corrosion inhibitor to protect the metal substrate from excessive acid corrosion.
3.3 Rubber & Polymer Material Industry
As a high-efficiency auxiliary vulcanization accelerator and rubber curing agent, thiourea is widely used in natural rubber, synthetic rubber and latex product processing. It can reduce vulcanization temperature, shorten curing time, improve rubber tensile strength and wear resistance, and optimize the overall processing performance of rubber products. It is also used as a polymerization auxiliary and antioxidant in plastic and polymer synthesis to enhance product stability.
3.4 Pesticide & Pharmaceutical Intermediate Synthesis
Thiourea is a key foundational intermediate for the synthesis of sulfur-containing pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and insecticides, and is widely used in the preparation of thiadiazole, thiazole and other heterocyclic compounds. In pharmaceutical industry, high-purity thiourea is applied in the synthesis of antibiotic drugs, antiviral intermediates and biochemical reagents, meeting the high-purity raw material standards of fine pharmaceutical chemical production.
3.5 Fine Chemical & Environmental Protection Industry
It is an indispensable raw material for the preparation of thiocyanate, ammonium thiocyanate, metal thiocyanate and other sulfur-series chemical products. In environmental protection water treatment, it is used as a heavy metal chelating precipitant to capture and remove residual heavy metal ions in wastewater. It also serves as a key analytical reagent for chemical laboratory qualitative and quantitative detection of metal ions.
4. Manufacturer Core Advantages
First, we adopt optimized ammonia-carbon disulfide synthetic process and secondary recrystallization purification technology, with stable product purity and extremely low impurity content, avoiding quality attenuation during long-term storage. Second, complete production qualification system, all products comply with international industrial standards, and support customized index adjustment according to customer process requirements. Third, large-scale automated production lines ensure sufficient monthly output and stable spot supply, supporting flexible MOQ for trial orders and long-term bulk orders. Fourth, professional foreign trade team is proficient in dangerous goods export procedures, providing one-stop services including customs declaration, document sorting and logistics coordination to solve global customer trade problems.
5. Storage, Transportation & Safety Instructions
Store thiourea in a cool, dry, ventilated and dust-free warehouse, away from high temperature, direct sunlight and humid environment to prevent moisture caking and oxidative deterioration. It is strictly prohibited to store and transport together with strong oxidants, strong acids, toxic substances and food chemicals. During operation, wear dust-proof masks, protective gloves and goggles to avoid inhalation of dust and direct skin and eye contact. In case of accidental contact, rinse with plenty of clean water immediately. The product is a common industrial chemical, which needs to be transported and stored in accordance with general chemical specifications to ensure operational safety.
